Book Series' I Need to Catch Up On

I'm generally quite on top of book series'. I avoid starting too many at once otherwise I know I'll never finish them. But there are always some that slip through the gaps and I end up falling behind. Surprisingly, the list of series' I'm behind on is 10 exactly, making it a perfect Top Ten Tuesday list!

1. Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas (read books 1-4)
I've read the first four Throne of Glass books plus the novella collection, but I forgot to ever read Empire of Storms. I don't remember much of what happened, so I think when the series has ended and all the books have ended I will binge them all from start to finish. It's one of my favourite ways to read a long series because I'm always bound to forget what happens.

2. The Conqueror's Saga by Kiersten White (read book 1)
I loved And I Darken, but I never got around to reading the sequel even though I have a copy! The final book in the trilogy is coming out this summer, so I think this will be another series binge for me. I have high expectations based on how much I enjoyed book 1, and I'm certain it won't disappoint. The characters are so twisted and I want to know how much darker it's going to get.

3. Micha Gray by Laura Lam (read book 1)
I think it's been two years since I read Pantomime, and I have the sequel on my kindle so I don't know what has been taking me so long. I've never read anything quite like Pantomime, so I'm interested to see where the series goes. Also, I love how queer it is. Give me more fantasy books with bisexual and intersex protagonists please and thank you!

4. The Land of Stories by Chris Colfer (read books 1-5)
I've only got the final book to go with this series, but I'm saving it for when I need a light read. These books are really sweet and I'm excited to see the conclusion of the twins' adventures (although I'd like to hope they'd continue to have adventures in The Land of Stories even when the books have ended).

5. Pacifica by Laura Lam (read book 1)
Pacifica isn't a series as such. It just has two books set in the same universe, but they aren't linked in any other way as far as I know. I was incredibly excited for False Hearts when it was released, but it didn't work for me. I got Shattered Minds via Netgalley though, so I'm hoping I'll enjoy it more, particularly because I loved Laura Lam's Pantomime.

6. The Great Library by Rachel Caine (read books 1-3)
I love the characters in this series so much, and every book is better than the last. I actually thought Smoke and Iron had already been released, but it turns out there's another week to go. As I write this I just pre-ordered the kindle version so I can get started on reading it as soon as it comes out, rather than leave it for ages like I do far too often.

7. Timekeeper by Tara Sim (read book 1)
Timekeeper was super sweet! I actually borrowed the first book from my friend from when she bought it in the US, but neither of us has read Chainbreaker because frustratingly this series hasn't been published in the UK. I'm going to try and request it in my library and see if they can order a copy, otherwise I don't know when I'll be able to read it.

8. The Language of Thorns by Leigh Bardugo (read Shadow and Bone and Six of Crows)
The Langauge of Thorns is a standalone collection of short stories, but they are set in Leigh Bardugo's Grisha universe, which I am a little bit obsessed with. I don't have a copy yet, but I've seen it in my local bookshop and it looks so beautiful. I'm restraining myself from buying it at the moment, but knowing me I'll probably cave at some point.

9. The Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater (read books 1-4)
I've actually read all of The Raven Cycle and I adore it. But I haven't read Maggie Stiefvater's short story 'Opal', which fits in at the end of The Raven King. I don't know much about it, but it has my darling children in it, so of course, I'm going to love it.

10. Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi (read books 1-3)
I was completely addicted to the first 3 books in this series. Restore Me came much later after the original trilogy, so I thought it made sense to give myself a little break from the series before continuing it. But I'm pretty sure I'll be reading Restore Me this year, because I can't be apart from these incredible characters for too long.

How many series' do you need to catch up on? Which ones on my list should I prioritise?

This post was inspired by the prompt 'Series I’d Like to Finish Someday' on Top 10 Tuesday, hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl.

  1. I need to catch up with the latest Throne of Glass book, they come out at the worst possible times because it's always just before I go back to Uni and get too busy to read massive tomes! I'm even further behind The Great Library series than you, I haven't even read three yet, I remember really wanting to when I finished two and then other books just took over. Chainbreaker was amazing, I got it off Edelweiss, as I know it's annoyingly not published here (WHY? IT'S SO GOOD) so I hope you manage to get it from your library. Language of Thorns was super amazing! I also haven't read Opal, but I don't know if I want to? Short stories aren't really my thing, unless it's a collection like TLOT, so it reads more like a full book.

    1. Exactly! I could handle it if they were released near summer or christmas break, but with uni in the way they are bound to get neglected part way through reading because they're just so big.
I think the third book in The Great Library series is my favourite - so I hope you enjoy it when you get the chance to pick it up!
I'm the same with short stories, but normally it is short story collections that don't work for me. The short form still isn't my favourite, but I know I'm sometimes pleasantly surprised so I hope that will be the case for Opal!

  2. Thank you for reminding me that I've yet to read Language of Thorns. I had completely forgotten about it! (I don't know how because it's GORGEOUS.) I hope you enjoy reading these!

  3. Ooh, yuss to Throne of Glass. They just keep getting better with each installment, and I have such high hopes for Kingdom of Ash!

    1. I totally agree, at least based on what I've read of the series so far! I'll admit I'm starting to forget what has happened so far though so I'm definitely in need of a re-read!

  4. I always try to finish my existing series before starting new ones, but they don't always work all the time ahaha! I need to read Restore Me, Language of Thorns, as well as Opal too, before new books are released and books I need to read keep piling up!

    1. I try to do the same, and normally I'm pretty good at keeping on top of series'. But when new books in the series start releasing I start to fall behind! It's why I prefer binge-reading series. I actually just finished Restore Me and it didn't disappoint! I hope you enjoy it :)
