Harley in the Sky Book Tag

To celebrate the upcoming release of Harley in the Sky on March 2020, several members of the book's Street Team have created tags and challenges for everyone to take part in! The first is a book tag hosted by Emma Novella, who has created six prompts inspired by Harley in the Sky. She is also doing an international giveaway for both a preorder of the book and the limited edition art cards of the characters! You can learn more about the competition by watching her video here. Thank you Emma for creating the tag, and without further ado, let's begin!

Yellow - a book with yellow/orange on the cover
I often talk about the same books on my blog, so I have decided for this challenge I will select books I haven't spoken about in a while or ones I think are underrated. The first of these is Things a Bright Girl Can Do by Sally Nicholls, which is all about three young suffragettes fighting for their right to vote. It's all about hardship and different kinds of privilege, and I felt like I learnt so much from this story.

Circus - a book set in a circus
I've always found the popularity of circus books interesting. I've never felt that particular draw to the circus myself, but I love the magic different writers have brought to this setting. Amanda Foody does just that with Daughter of the Burning City, which is about a girl who creates illusions that come to life and are like her little family. It's also a murder mystery which is definitely the most exciting aspect of the story.

Harley - a book that features a motorbike
I struggled with this one because I couldn't think of any books that prominently featured a motorbike. I wanted to go with Timekeeper by Tara Sim because I'm 70% sure one of the characters had to have had a motorbike. But because I'm not absolutely certain, I'm also going to bring up City of Bones by Cassandra Clare. The Mortal Instruments series is about a girl who learns she comes from a long line of demon hunters and goes on a journey to save her missing mother. Also, the protagonists definitely hijack a vampire motorbike at one point, so success!

Mixed-race - a book with a mixed-race character
I haven't talked about my love for C.B. Lee's Not Your Sidekick for ages and I am ashamed because I love her books! The protagonist Jess is Chinese-Vietnamese and lives in a world where superheroes are everywhere. It twists a few tropes of the superhero genre and deals with issues like race and sexuality. It's fun and incredibly sweet and the series features even more lovable and diverse teens as they go on a mission to save their society.

Vegas - a book set in Las Vegas
The only book that I can think of that fits this prompt is Percy Jackson and The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan. It mainly came to mind because of the flashy Vegas scene in the movie adaptation, but I vaguely remember that the hotel they stay at in the book has a much more run-down vibe (correct me if I'm wrong though - it's been years since I last read it). Most of you will know what the Percy Jackson series is about, but in case you don't, it's about a boy who learns he is the son of Poseidon and ends up going on an adventure to save his mother (and sass all the Gods in the process).

Aerialist - a book that features flying
I was actually able to find a book about an aerialist for this one! Pantomime by Laura Lam is a fantasy novel about an intersex teen who runs away from their noble life and joins a circus, training to become an aerialist. I don't actually remember much about this one, because I read the first book in the series and never got to the rest. But I'm hoping to re-read it soon so I can continue the series.

Have you ever read a book about an aerialist before? Do you have a favourite circus book? Can you think of any other books with a Las Vegas setting? What is your favourite Akemi Dawn Bowman book?
