October Favourites

Monthly favourites is where I list the best music, books, and everything else that I have discovered by the end of the month.

Once Upon a Time Season 5
I am using my free month of Netflix just so I can watch this show. Anyone who knows me can tell you I am obsessed with a good retelling, and OUAT does this incredibly well. In the first episode alone, there were connections between stories that I would have never made. Everything is interlocking and the representation of family and relationships is so beautiful. Plus season 4 ended with a major plot twist [Don't worry! No spoilers!] and I can't wait to see it unfold.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer
I might have started Netflix for Once Upon a Time, but I used it mostly for watching Buffy. This is the first time I've ever seen the show (don't blame me - I wasn't born when it started) and I have to say it exceeded my expectations. The animation is pretty poor but the concept and execution is brilliant.

Written in the Stars by The Girl and the Dreamcatcher
The first single by this band and I really love it. It's young and fun and Dove Cameron and Ryan Mccartan have incredible voices that complement one another beautifully.

Hamilton Musical Soundtrack
It is musicals like these that make me wish I lived in New York (and that I had lots of money so I could see every Broadway show possible). Inspired by the biography of Alexander Hamilton, Lin-Manuel Miranda (main character and writer of the music and lyrics to In The Heights) wrote the music, lyrics and the book and stars in this new musical. It features a mix of rap and hip hop and brings life to this part of American History.

Books
Sadly I have not read much this month because of school work. I feel really bad about this because I normally always make myself time to read, but I need to get into the rhythm of school again after a summer of reading so many books.
  • A Doll's House by Henrik Ibsen (re-read for school)
  • The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde (you can find my review here)
  • The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes by Arthur Conan Doyle (for my school project)
  • The Bone Clocks by David Mitchell (to be finished, review to come)
  • The Night Parade by Kathryn Tanquary (you can find my review here)

Post Catch Up

That was my October! If you liked this feature let me know and I will continue to create favourites lists.

  1. It's never too late to become a Buffy fan! I was pretty young when it very first started (well, like 10), but I did watch the later seasons live. In college I binged watched the entire series, and it was fabulous!

    1. It's such a well written show which is not at all what I expected - so good that I have to stop my netflix subscription otherwise I'll end up doing no work in order to marathon it all asap!

  2. Buffy is amazing! I was young when it started but watched it faithfully and believe me the seasons get better as they go on!
