When a young shapeshifter enters the fortress of supervillain Ballister Blackheart and declares herself his new sidekick, he has no idea what he's in for. Nimona is loud and spontaneous, and with a dash of bloodlust added to the mix, she's not exactly what you'd look for in a partner in crime, especially when you're trying to thwart your nemesis.
Nimona is in this special category of things I love like the wonderful Carry On by Rainbow Rowell where it's both serious and not serious. It's an epic fantasy filled with dragons and villains, but also has heroes with the name Ambrosius Goldenloin and magical systems that don't need to be too complicated to work.
This wasn't an art style I was used to, but I ended up loving it. It worked perfectly with the tone of the story and the lively natures of the characters, but also really worked for some of the darker scenes too. Plus the colour scheme was also wonderful with reflecting the vibe of the story.
If you're in need of a little light in your life at the moment, I'd highly recommend Nimona. It's funny and fluffy and a little sad all bound in one pretty cover, and is lovable in every way.
Oh, I'm so happy you liked this! It's not something I'd usually read, but I'll have to give it a try!
