New-To-Me Authors Read in 2016

Top 10 Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.
2016 has been a big year for reading, and with that comes a whole bunch of authors whose books I've never read before. Here's my list of authors I've read for the first time in 2016 that I'm looking forward to seeing more of.

1. Rachel Caine - I know Caine writes a lot of vampire stuff which isn't really my thing, but the concept of Ink and Bone was something I could really get behind. I can't wait to continue this series because libraries + magic = perfection.

2. R.J. Anderson - Ultraviolet and Quicksilver were an amazing two books. A little weird but I totally loved them and don't know how more people haven't read them! PLUS THERE IS A CANON ASEXUAL CHARACTER AND THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT.

3. Riley Redgate - I expected nothing from this book. I didn't expect to really enjoy it! I mean, it was a debut contemporary with multiple perspectives which for me is normally a recipe for disaster. But I loved it and I kinda want to see what else Redgate has to offer.

4. Leigh Bardugo - Oh man, the Six of Crows duology. It's so absurdly good?? I even went back and read The Grisha trilogy and I really saw how much Bardugo's writing has grown (although her concepts are consistently fab). Seriously looking forward to her future work!

5. V.E. Schwab - I can't believe I only read A Darker Shade of Magic earlier this year because it feels like Schwab has been my favourite author since the beginning of time. Her writing is brilliant and her concepts are dark and mind blowing and I need every book she's ever written in my life.

6. Alice Oseman - Radio Silence was everything, especially because everything the characters were going through I was going through too. There's not a lot of modern British lit I read so this was shockingly real for me, and I really want to read Oseman's past and future books.

7. Lyndsay Faye - I don't talk about Jane Steele enough but it was absurdly incredible? It mirrored Jane Eyre perfeclty but was also nothing like it in the best way possible. Plus it was viciously brutal and I love that stuff. Looking forward to more!

8. Leah Thomas - A book recommended to me by Chiara @ Books for a Delicate Eternity. SUCH A CUTE BOOK. It was like a weird contemporary/sci-fi mash up and such a delight to read. I got so invested in the characters and I was sad when it was over.

9. Kiersten White - I said I hated historical fiction but I WAS WRONG. I loved Lada and her stabby nature and Radu and his equal ability to manipulate whilst being an absolute cutie. And I loved their messed up sibling relationship and their messed up little heads.

10. Laura Lam - After reading Pantomime I'm so glad it's getting republished. It didn't get the attention it deserved and it's so good! It's like The Night Circus but with an intersex protagonist and I can't wait to continue the series as well as read Lam's False Hearts which sounds epic.

  1. You have so many good authors/books on this list! I'm a little enivious that you got to binge all of Leigh Bardugo's books this year. That must have been fun. I really need to get my hands on Ink and Bone. It sounds like my kind of book!

    1. And I Darken was so good. And yes you need to read some Bardugo books! If you're not sure about the Grisha Trilogy then I'd recommend going straight into Six of Crows because it's so good. Also Jane Steele is amazing and so underrated!

  5. Alice Oseman is one of my favourite authors ever and I highly suggest you read Solitaire or first novel as it is equally but differently amazing. V.E Schwab is an author I have been meaning to read for a long time but still haven't gotten around to, maybe santa will bring me one of her books like I am hoping :) Nice List

    1. I'm so glad to hear that! I've seen mixed reviews for Solitaire but I think that since I loved Radio Silence I'm likely to enjoy Solitaire too.
I hope Santa brings you some VE Schwab books because they are magnificently good! I know not everyone loves her writing but I've not seen a single bad thing said about Vicious ever, so I'd 100% recommend that first :D
      Thanks!
