My Spring TBR

I'm looking to mix it up with a bunch of different genres this Spring, so my TBR for the season is pretty varied. I have some Historical Ficiton, 2 Sherlock Holmes adaptations, 3 Contemporaries, and 3 books by Sci-Fi/Fantasy books by Laura Lam that I'm hoping to get through.

The French Lieutenant's Woman by John Fowles
I quite honestly have no idea what this is about. I have to read it for class very soon but I can't say I'm particularly excited. From what I understand from the blurb it's a work of historical fiction focused on a romance and a love triangle, which doesn't seem very much like my thing.

Cereus Blooms at Night by Shani MootooAnother book that I need to read for class and have no excitement for. Goodreads has it listed under LGBT and Magical Realism which is definitely atypical for a module titled 'History of English Literature' so perhaps this uniqueness will be a pleasant shift form our typical reads.

Art in the Blood by Bonnie MacBird
This has been on my TBR for far too long. I met the author! I interviewed her for a school project! I have a signed copy! I love adaptations of Sherlock Holmes! What is it still doing here unread? I do not have the answers. But I do plan to get through some of the older books from my TBR.

Elementary: The Ghost Line by Adam Christopher
Another book that has been on my TBR for far too long. I won this from a Goodreads giveaway, which I entered because I absolutely love Elementary. Plus I am in serious need of some more mystery novels in my life, so what better than another Holmes adaptation?

False Hearts by Laura Lam
I preordered the UK paperback copy of this book because it sounded fascinating and I can't wait for it to arrive in April. I'm a big fan of Sci-Fi when it's done right, and from the reviews I've read, Lam does it excellently. I enjoyed her book Pantomime, so I have high hopes.

Shadowplay by Laura Lam
After reading Pantomime, I went straight to downloading Shadowplay. The Micah Gray series is really cheap on the kindle store, people! You have no excuse! My friend has told me the sequel is even better than it's predecessor so I'm excited to see how this world is developed.

Masquerade by Laura Lam
The release of this book was put off for so long because of issues with the publishers, but it's finally gotten it's release this month with a super pretty cover. As soon as I finish Shadowplay (given that I enjoy it, which is quite likely) I'm going straight to the finale of this series.

Whisper to Me by Nick Lake
I bought this pretty book at YALC 2016 and I've heard very good things about it's representation of mental illness. Being an area I don't typically read about due to the number of poorly written mental illness books out there, the positive reviews have me optimistic.

Running Girl by Simon Mason
A recommendation from a friend and yet another book I purhcased at YALC. I'm always up for a good murder mystery, even though I normally steer clear of them because I'm not a fan of horror (and there seems to be a lot of overlap). I hope my expectations are met!

Noteworthy by Riley Redgate
A Netgalley request that was thankfully approved! I loved Riley Redgate's debut novel Seven Ways We Lie and how it did something totally different with the contemporary genre (which I often don't enjoy), and I'm hoping to see the same in her second book.

What are you planning to read this Spring? Have you read any of the books on my list? What did you think?

Top 10 Tuesday is hosted by by The Broke and the Bookish.

  1. Whoa that Art in the Blood cover is gorgeous! And I really do want to read the Pantomime series, just haven't gotten to it yet. Maybe this year!

    1. It truly is! I've grown tired of the excess of white minimalist covers out there but I still adore this one. I've only read the first book in the Pantomime series but I'd really recommend it, especially now that the full trilogy has been released!

  2. I agree, Kristen. That cover caught my eye immediately as well.

Cereus Blooms at Night sounds intriguing. I hope you end up enjoying it a lot! There have been times when I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked a book that was a required read for a certain class.

    1. It's a very pretty cover!
Cereus Blooms at Night definitely sounds more interesting than the other required reading I've had so I hope I like it. It's always a wonderful thing when a required read is better than expected, but for now I'm trying not to set my expectations too highly!

  3. Whisper to Me and Noteworthy both sound like books I would love. Definitely going to have to add those to my list!

    1. Oh cool! I don't know many who have heard of it which may be why I've been subconciously putting it off. I hope you enjoy your spring reads for the year too!
