New-to-Me Authors of 2017 That I Want to Read More Of

I discovered so many new authors in 2017! Over two thirds of the books I read last year were by authors I hadn't read before. Whilst I'm avoiding adding too much to my TBR, there are some authors I know I'll be picking up again.

Angie Thomas
The Hate U Give was one of the first books I read this year, and it moved me so much. Angie seems like is such a lovely person and her debut was incredible, so I'll be sure to read her second book, On The Come Up.

Mackenzi Lee
I had so much fun with The Gentleman's Guide to Vice and Virtue, and I already look forward to rereading it (hopefully by audiobook because I've heard excellent things). I'm really looking forward to the sequel about Felicity.

Laini Taylor
Daughter of Smoke and Bone wasn't really the book for me. Nevertheless, Laini's writing style utterly captivated me, and with the utterly quirky synopsis of Strange the Dreamer, I think her latest series might be just up my street.

Tara Sim
Timekeeper was adorable. For a book about clocks and mechanics, you wouldn't expect it to be so soft. I feel like there is a lot of world building and heartbreak coming in the sequel, Chainbreaker, and I look forward to Tara causing me pain.

Adam Silvera
I wasn't the biggest fan of History is All You Left Me, but I felt sure there would be a Silvera book for me. And I couldn't have been more right, because They Both Die at the End moved me to my core and I'm still not over it.

Amanda Foody
I liked Daughter of the Burning City a lot, but didn't love it. But that didn't stop me from requesting an ARC of Foody's second book, Ace of Shades. The synopsis is fantastic, and I just know that the author will do it justice.

Have you read anything by any of these lovely authors? Do you have any of their books on your TBR? What new-to-you authors do you want to read more of?

  1. I read ALL of Adam Silvera's books this year because I loved the first book I read by him. He's definitely one of my favorite authors!!! I totally agree about Mackenzi Lee and Angie Thomas, and even though I didn't like Daughter of the Burning City, I am SO EXCITED for her upcoming release, Ace of Shades!!!!

    1. Adam Silvera is amazing. I still need to read his first book, but what I'm most looking forward to is his collaboration with Becky Albertalli - it's bound to be a perfect blend of painful and adorable. I look forward to seeing the writing of all of these authors grow with every knew release <3

  6. I'm also excited to read more books by Angie Thomas, Mackenzi Lee and Tara Sim, who were all new to me this year. I'm also super excited to read more of Strange the Dreamer which perhaps isn't usually my kind of thing but I loved a lot! Next year I hope to read more of Becky Chambers -- I read The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet in summer and loved it, and I hope I'll enjoy the sequel too!

    1. Angie Thomas, Mackenzi Lee, and Tara Sim are all such wonderful authors and I'm glad you enjoyed their books too! Strange the Dreamer and The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet are both really high up on my TBR so I'm hoping to get to them both this year. They sound different to things I've read before but I think they will be the kind of books I love. I hope you enjoy the sequels to those books and find even more great authors this year, Eve!
