Favourite Books of 2017

As 2017 comes to an end, I want to focus on the good things that have happened this year. I didn't do much in terms of personal achievements, particularly in the latter half of the year. I've struggled to do and enjoy things, which shows in the recent drops in my blogging and the low ratings in my reading. But Christmas is on its way and I'll be seeing more friends soon. I will be seeing the new Star Wars movie in a couple of weeks. I have a module on Science Fiction next year and I'm really excited by the reading list. There are so many new releases next year that I can't wait to read. And although I didn't have nearly as many good reads as I did last year, there are plenty that I adored. And to maximise the love, I'm listing ALL of my 4 and 5 star reads, including re-reads, to make a mega-list of book love. 💖

There are a few more weeks of December remaining, so if I find any other book loves in the rest of the year I will be adding them to this list!

What are your favourite reads of 2017? Where many of them new releases or did you discover some lovable old books too? Have you read any of the books on my list? Does your list have any matching books to mine?

This post was inspired by the prompt 'Top 10 Favourite Books of 2017' on Top 10 Tuesday, which is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.

  2. Patrick Ness and Adam Silvera are two of my favourite authors, I`m glad to see them on your list. In January I plan on reading the Shades of Magic trilogy and I`m so excited for it. I`ve seen the books on so many lists today.

    1. Ness is definitely a favourite author of mine too (and I don't say that often). I've only read History and They Both Die by Silvera and I only ended up liking the latter (scratch that - I adore it), but I'm definitely excited to read his future books, especially the one he's collaborating on with Becky Albertalli!

I hope you like the Shades of Magic trilogy! It isn't for everyone, but it is so unique and fantastical.

      Happy reading!

  3. Your list is so beautiful!!! I read ALL of Adam Silvera's books this year and loved them all. More Happy Than Not is so heartbreaking too, and They Both Die At The End had me shook by the end. I've seen so many amazing things about the Ink And Fire or Ash and Paper or I don't know what it is called series, and since it is set in dusty, old libraries, I KNOW I NEED TO READ IT!

Meddling Kids sounds like such a Scooby Doo book and there's nothing I want more in my life than that. I'm so happy it's on your list! Really, I should have read many more classics this year. I was too distracted by the fabulous new releases to even stop and think. I'm doing a list of all the ones I'm dying to read for next year!

    This post is amazing!!!

    1. Thank you!! They Both Die at the End ruined my life in the best way possible. I already want to reread it so I can be hurt all over again. I didn't love History is All You Left Me, but I want to read More Happy Than Not. I just need to prepare myself for the inevitable heartbreak that comes with all of his books.

The series is called The Great Library and it's fabulous! It's in a fantasy alternative universe where The Library of Alexandria never burnt down and it controls and censors all knowledge. The first book is called Ink and Bone and I couldn't recommend it enough because each book gets better!

Meddling Kids is very much a Scooby Doo retelling - you definitely need it in your life! It is an adult horror novel about a group of kids much like the mystery gang, but all grown up and seriously traumatised by a mystery that didn't go right when they were younger.

I only read a lot of classics/older books because of class! I hope you get to read all the books you want in 2018 :D

  4. ACOL was on my list this week too and several of the books on your list were on my favourites list last year. I didn't get to Ash and Quill this year, so I'm hoping to get to it next year! I'm reading the sequel to Timekeeper, Chainbreaker at the moment and it's so good!

    1. The Shades of Magic series is brilliant - and yeah this year was a lot of catching up on books published last year or earlier for me. There were so many good ones! Ash and Quill was brilliant, and I hope you get to it too! Also I envy you so much for already getting to read Chainbreaker - I'm glad you're enjoying it :D

  6. I read not a single book from your list execpt 'the time machine' which I read a long time ago so I don't even remember what happened but I'm sure I liked it but I wouldn't list it as one of my favorite & also, I read 'howards end' but I like 'a room with a view' better.

I found 'fangirl' to be so disappointing and so boring that I may never read any of Rowell's books again.

    have a lovely day.

    1. I'm not sure if I'd call The Time Machine a favourite book of mine but it was one of the ones I enjoyed most this year. I also want to read more Forster and I've heard really good things about A Room with a View.

I'm sorry you didn't like Fangirl. I really like what I've read of Rainbow Rowell's books, but I know they're definitely not for everyone.

I hope you have a good day too :)

  8. I was planning on reading A Darker Shade of Magic before the year is out but I don't think I'll get to it now. However, I will make it my top priority next year. So many people have seemed to enjoy that series that I definitely can't wait to dive right in. I just finished Carry On which was absolutely amazing. And with every Rainbow Rowell book, it gave me all the feels. :) The Gentleman's Guide is on my favorites list too. I can't wait until the companion novel, The Lady's Guide to Piracy and Petticoats releases- I hope Monty makes an appearance. Fantastic list! Happy reading!

    1. I really hope you enjoy ADSOM, Jeanna! The world is so unique and easy to fall in love with. Also I'm glad you liked Carry On! I definitely need to read more Rainbow Rowell books. I'm seriously looking forward to the companion novel to The Gentleman's Guide next year, and I'm hoping for a Monty and hopefully Percy appearance too. Thank you <3

  10. I just finished reading Oliver Twist the other day! It was a lot darker than I initially expected, but I always love Dickens' writing. You've also just reminded me that I really need to read Release ASAP!

    1. I was surprised by how dark Oliver Twist was as well! I haven't read any other Dickens, and I think I was a little put off by how film and television portray 'Dickensian literature'. But the reality of his writing is a lot more twisted and witty, and I'm excited to read more of his work. Release is one of my favourite books published this year. It's an unusual read, but I hope you love it!
