Top 10 Tuesday: Books to Read if you Liked this Popular Book

Top 10 Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. Today I'll be taking popular books and recommending books that are similar:

1. If you liked 'Percy Jackson and the Olympians' by Rick Riordan, you'll like 'The Companions Quartet' by Julia Golding - both include elements of mythology

2. If you liked 'The Hunger Games' by Suzanne Collins, you'll like 'Fahrenheit 451' by Ray Bradbury - both set in dystopian futures

3. If you liked 'Harry Potter' by J.K. Rowling, you'll like 'Half Bad' by Sally Green - both deal with wizards and witches in the real world, but the protagonists are treated and respond very differently to the expectations put upon them.

4. If you liked 'Artemis Fowl' by Eoin Colfer, you'll like 'The Shapeshifter' by Ali Sparkes - both adventure series' aimed at a market of young boys, one character deals with magic around him whereas the other deals with the supernatural within him

5. If you liked 'Cloud Atlas' by David Mitchell, you'll like 'The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August' by Claire North - both involve SciFi elements and are two of the most intelligently structured novels I have ever read

6. If you liked 'The Maze Runner' by James Dashner, you'll like 'The Darkest Minds' by Alexandra Bracken - both are part of the SciFi/dystopian genre where the protagonists are forced to deal with aspects of themselves they do not fully understand

7. If you liked 'Inkheart' by Cornelia Funke, you'll like 'The Land of Stories' by Chris Colfer - both are suitable for all ages and involve literally falling into fiction

8. If you liked 'The Mortal Instruments' by Cassandra Clare, you'll like 'Midnighters' by Scott Westerfeld - young adult fiction dealing with paranormal creatures that lurk in the dark and the few who are able to see them

9. If you liked 'Throne of Glass' by Sarah J. Maas, you'll like 'The Raven Cycle' by Maggie Stiefvater - these are both within the fantasy genre, but couldn't be more different when it comes to setting. The reason why I paired these two is that their strength lies within the complex, three dimentional characters.

10. If you liked 'Pride and Prejudice' by Jane Austen, you'll like 'Wuthering Heights' by Emily Brontë - two epic romances where society gets in the way, but 'Wuthering Heights' has a darker, more gothic tone.

  1. Heard so many good things about Half Bad. So if it's a recommendation from Harry Potter then it's a must read

    1. I have yet to read the second book in the series, but I really enjoyed the first. I wouldn't quite say I loved it quite as much as Harry Potter. I see many people comparing the two as they are both about a boy with magic, but the similarities stop around there as the story telling styles are very different. Still definitely worth a read!

  3. Great picks! I love Percy Jackson and Harry Potter--will have to try Half Bad and Secret of the Sirens. And I'm happy to see The Darkest Minds listed here--it's amazing and completely underrated.

    1. Thanks! I don't see anyone talking about Secret of the Sirens - the Companions Quartet is incredibly underrated, as is The Darkest Minds

  6. These are good book recommendations. I have read some of the books here, like The Darkest Minds, and I think I need 'Fahrenheit 451' by Ray Bradbury :D
