Music Match Monday - The Night Circus

Music Match Monday is a feature hosted here at Astronomical Books where on the first Monday of every month I match the lyrics of a song to a book and explain why they go together so perfectly.

Song: Blinding by Florence + the Machine
Book: The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern

You think, as you walk away from Le Cirque des Rêves and into the creeping dawn, that you felt more awake within the confines of the circus. You are no longer quite certain which side of the fence is the dream.

I first heard the instrumental version of this song on this playlist and fell in love with it. It has the perfect balance of the haunting and captivating nature of the circus that Bailey and the other rêvuers might have felt when exploring the circus for the first time. The 'dreaming state' is an appropriate description for the rêvuers' experience of The Circus of Dreams as they are 'tourist's experiencing a glimpse of of the fantastical.
