Holiday Gift Guide - Books to Buy People Who Aren't Big on Reading

Top 10 Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.
We all have people in our lives that don't read much. Maybe they don't have the time, or simply don't enjoy it or have the patience for it. Whatever the reason, I believe you can always find a book to appeal to someone. Here are a few I'd recommend to those who aren't big readers.

1. Wonder
This is a very sweet and genuine book. It's about children and aimed at children, but I've shared it with a lot of people of different ages and they all loved it's lovely moral messages and how real it was.

2. To Kill a Mockingbird
Not the easiest read, but a very relevant one. I truly believe that this is a book everyone needs to read, and I the theme of family is very prominent so I think everyone can relate to it.

3. Illuminae
This is the only book on this list that's not on my personal favourites list. But it takes the concept of reading in a very new and artistic way - one that I think the non-readers in your life can really appreciate.

4. A Monster Calls
A short read, and relatively easy. The themes that come through are tough, but I don't know a single person who didn't love this book.

5. I Am Malala
If fiction isn't their thing, this is an excellent autobiography I would highly recommend. This edition is suited to all ages, and Malala is one of the most inspiring human beings that everyone should know about.

I think maybe I put my personal opinions into this one a little too much - but I stand by the fact that I think these five books can be enjoyed  by even those who claim to hate reading. What do you think? Are there any books you'd add to the list?

  1. I've only read A Monster Calls from this list, but I agree that it's a book for everyone. I really need to read Wonder!

  2. I like that you included a nonfiction title - often people who think they hate reading haven't explored the full range of reading options available, including nonfiction, audiobooks and graphic novels!

  3. Great list! I haven't read any of these, yet, but almost all of them are on my TBR list. A Monster Calls is especially high on my list, I hope I get to read it soon!

    1. Thank you! Apart from Illuminae they are all in my top favourite books of all time so I'd highly recommend them. A Monster Calls was the one I read most recently, and although it was short it was very powerful. I hope you enjoy it! :)

    1. Yeah I agree! It's a novel but it doesn't entirely read like one so I think it might appeal to those who really don't enjoy the novel format.
